Looking at the ClustrMap below, there’s a lot of foreign visitors to this blog. Let’s face it – swedish is not a world language, and thus many of you simply don’t know what we’re saying, right here on Bibtech142. So, what are we?
Bibtech142 is a fairly new library blog, started in june 2007. We belong to Skogås Library, a medium sized library of Huddinge kommun (roughly translated, Huddinge county, ), a municipality just outside Stockholm, Sweden.
Built in 1968, Skogås library have since then been located in the same building. The library has undergone some extensive renovation in 2006, and is now a modern and fully funtional library with some 80 000 visistors per year (at least in 2007). The library manages some 25 000 media; books, CD’s, DVD’s, videos and other media.

Skogås library is using RFID-technique, allowing library users to some extent manage on their own, returning and borrowing books and other media. The library also offers nearly a dozen public internet computer terminals, a fair amount of specilized computer tools such as encycklopedias, authors index, book catalogues and genealogical research, as well as offering computer games (for kids, mostly). Staff consists of about half a dozen full time librarians and library assistants. Within the library, Huddinge county also has a ‘county helpdesk’, offering information of and help for residents of Huddinge county.
There you have it, folks. The next time you’re looking for ‘Matrix code’ or ‘Star wars’ or something like that, and internet ushers you into the strange lands of Sweden, you know exactly where you are.
We’re not that big a planet after all, are we?
